In what is one of the best-named ski runs in Utah (just my opinion, of course!) Deer Valley has put together perhaps the ultimate Deer Valley-style ski run.

Open now for the 2024/2025 season as part of the new Expanded Excellence part of the mountain, my family and I had a chance to ski the Green Monster on Sunday, January 26th, 2025, as part of our third day of the season skiing Deer Vally on our Ikon Passes.

We parked in the new East Village area of Deer Valley – our first time using that new side of the mountain now that the big new parking lot is open and ready. From SLC, you head up I-80 to I-40, get off at the Mayflower/Jordanelle exit, and follow the signs to skier parking.

There’s a large, paved parking area and a shuttle stop for the same style of shuttle DV’s been using at Snow Park forever. There are some portable bathrooms at the parking lot shuttle stop, and then some more (5) at the drop-off point, along with a temporary ski shop and place to buy tickets.

Don’t fool yourself into thinking you can just pop into the new Grand Hyatt from the base of the ski area at the new east side, though; it’s a shuttle stop away until more construction happens (I assume?) to connect everything!

But back to the Green Monster, our plan was to ski the rest of DV and then ride it back to the car at the end of the day, and it worked out great! You can access the top of Green Monster from any of the lifts that go up Bald Mountain, so Sterling, Wasatch, or even Sultan will get you there.

You hook around the top on Homeward Bound and eventually will find a sharp left turn with some signage, and when we were there, two mountain hosts (!!) to help you find your way. The one who chatted us up was like – “ok, before you go here, a few questions”

  • Did you park in the East Village?
  • Are you planning to ski any more over here today? (since it was late in the day already)

Having said yes and no to our friendly host, we made our way to the run and headed back to the East Village.

Here’s how the run showed up on my Slopes app:

This one run measured out to 5.2 miles (for me, though officially it’s 4.85) and took 30 minutes to do! Mind you, we took our time, enjoyed the views, and went slow, but still – a 30-minute run is crazy! It’s not fantastic skiing, as much of it is just a cat track, so do it for the experience more than the thrill – and by the end, it was shad,y and my hands were freezing, but overall, it’s a fun new way to experience the new side of Deer Valley for sure.

Details:

  • Length: 4.85 miles (25,600 ft)
  • Difficulty: Beginner-friendly
  • Terrain: Easy downhill ski run
  • Average slope: 8° (13%)
  • Max slope: 18° (33%)
  • Starting point: Top of Bald Mountain
  • Ending point: Base of the Keetley Express chair in the East Village
  • Access: Requires at least two lifts to reach the top
  • Time to ski: 20–30 minutes, depending on skier ability
